What is the cause of endometriosis ?
Various theories have been proposed but the exact cause as to why endometriosis should occur is still not clear.

What are the symptoms of endometriosis ?
Endometriosis  is a disease of the child bearing age.
The most common symptom is painful menses. The pain begins before the onset of menstruation, builds up continuously until the flow begins; & thereafter it gradually declines.
Lower abdominal & backache is also common.
Some percentage of infertility is definitely attributable to endometriosis.

How can endometriosis be diagnosed ?
Endometriosis can be diffrentiated from other conditions by an ultrasonography.

What is the treatment ?
Drugs ---- oral contraceptive pills are useful in the management.
Danazol  is a newer drug that has been quite useful in management of endometriosis.
Surgery ----- It involves cauterisation of the lesions with laser.
Radical surgery involves removal of the entire mass with the deposits.
