Why is a dog bite dangerous?
If the dog is infected with rabies virus then its bite may introduce the rabies virus in the human body.


What should be done in case of dog bite?

Wash the wound thoroughly with soap & water.

Apply an antiseptic or even alcohol.

Do not cover the wound.

Always contact the doctor.


Is bite of a rabid dog the only cause of rabies?
No, It is not only the bite that can cause rabies. Even licks on open wounds & scratching is dangerous.

What are rabies vaccines?
The older vaccines----
These have to be taken on the stomach area. Depending on the site of bite, One has to take the injections for 7 or 10 days.
The newer vaccines--
These vaccines are to be taken in the arm. Also the other advantage of these vaccines is that one has to take only 5 doses of these injections. Optional booster dose is at 90 days.
