How to avoid asthma attacks ?--

Let's first understand that asthma is a disease which has no complete cure. You have to learn to live with it. Rather than cure the better approach is the best management of asthma. With the drugs & other measures as given below it can be managed so efficiently that it no longer interferes with day to day life. Remember that a normal life is possible even with asthma.

  • Avoid pets in the house
  • Avoid flowering plants in the house
  • Use latex rather than cotton pillows
  • No dusting of bed /floor when the patient is around.
  • Use plain rather than pleated curtains.
  • Avoid carpets. tile floors are better.
  • Avoid tobacco smoke/any other irritant fumes.
  • Avoid over stuffed furniture, shelves & dust catchers.
  • Try to avoid incense sticks, room fresheners, perfumed detergents.
  • Properly ventilate your rooms.
  • keep away from all cleaning operations. To required, clean with damp cloth.
  • Wash bedding (such as sheets, bedcovers, and blankets) once a week in hot water.
  • Choose washable stuffed toys, wash them often in hot water, and dry thoroughly.
  • Keep pets out of the bedroom and other sleeping areas at all times, and keep the door closed.
  • Keep pets away from fabric-covered furniture, carpets and stuffed toys.

  • Avoid triggers.
  • Monitor personal status using symptoms & if possible using peak flow indicators.
  • Recognize signs that asthma is worsening & take actions.
